So after spending 4 hours cutting 4 yards of material and making bobbins, I was finally ready to start making the liners. Though the flannel is an easy light weight material, getting my sewing machine and hands in sync is an issue. I have only made 22 liners in a week, but the repetition is making the process more fluid.
I set a goal of 200 lines this semester which need I need to make at least 20 a week, so I will stay positive and finish this project on time.
While doing research this week I found that these girls are struggling through an up hill battle.
Many of the concerns and constraints in girls’ education are rooted in deep seated gender inequalities. Entrenched assumptions about girls’ roles as carers, mothers, brides and household laborers influence perceptions of the value of girls’ education and the life and career choices that are available for them.
Changing these attitudes and behaviors is one of the greatest challenges facing girls’ education and also one of the most complex to address.
